What Is Your Dosha? Understanding Vata, Pitta, and Kapha

In Ayurveda, doshas are the three fundamental energies that govern how we feel, think, and function. Understanding your dosha can help you eat, live, and heal in a way that suits your unique constitution.

🔺 Vata Dosha – The Air & Space Type

Traits:

  • Creative, quick-thinking, energetic

  • Light build, dry skin, sensitive digestion

When Balanced: Vata types are lively, imaginative, and full of ideas.
When Imbalanced: They may feel anxious, scattered, or experience insomnia and bloating.

Balance Vata with:

  • Warm, nourishing foods (soups, stews)

  • Routine & rest

  • Oil massage (Abhyanga)

🔥 Pitta Dosha – The Fire & Water Type

Traits:

  • Driven, focused, natural leaders

  • Medium build, strong digestion, warm body temperature

When Balanced: Pitta types are sharp, courageous, and determined.
When Imbalanced: They may become irritable, overheated, or suffer from acidity and skin issues.

Balance Pitta with:

  • Cooling foods (cucumber, mint, coconut)

  • Time in nature

  • Avoiding overexertion or arguments

🌱 Kapha Dosha – The Earth & Water Type

Traits:

  • Calm, loving, grounded

  • Solid build, slow digestion, steady energy

When Balanced: Kapha types are compassionate, stable, and nurturing.
When Imbalanced: They may feel sluggish, gain weight easily, or experience mucus and depression.

Balance Kapha with:

  • Stimulating spices (ginger, turmeric)

  • Light exercise & variety

  • Dry brushing & energising routines
