Ayurveda for Treating Sleep disorders and Insomnia

Sleep disorders are on the rise and have a direct impact on our health and wellbeing.

Ayurveda recognises the importance of right diet, right routines and habits needed to ensure that we get a restful regenerative sleep.

During sleep we are in our natural Kapha phase of our circadian rhythm, and if we suffer vata or pitta imbalance it can cause sleep disturbance.

There are many ways Ayurveda can help to promote sleep. There are various treatments and remedies which we can recommend before bedtime include relaxing herbal drinks and nasal irrigation with simple essential oil preparations. Ayurveda recommends sticking to night routines, avoiding caffeine and alcohol/heavy meals as well as any use of tech gadgets in the hours leading to bedtime.

Short, guided relaxation sessions, deep breathing and meditation also help in preparing us for a good night’s sleep. I can advise and recommend specific routines for you to try. I can also prescribe herbal medications for short term use in more severe cases.
