I have arrived at Ayurveda following thirty years of practice as a GP

After working as a GP for 30 years both in Ireland and then in England,  I discovered the unique system of medicine known as Ayurveda.

Working as a GP ,I felt the patients’ frustration with Western medicine and the increasing reliance on medication to manage chronic disease and illnesses they were experiencing.

A constant complaint I heard was “But I don’t want to be taking tablets all the time!”

I had  a strong feeling there had to be a better way to manage our health, both of our body and especially of our mind.

Learning about Ayurveda has helped me understand more about myself both past and present. I am so grateful to have found Ayurveda in my mid 50s. It has given me a greater insight of myself, my relationships and the world around me.

It has changed my life, and how I look at my health, both body and mind.  I used to always wonder why disease and illness affected some patients and not others, and how some people seem to age better than others.

In Ayurveda, we are taught the  importance of digestion and nutrition as a foundation of a healthy body and mind. This simple yet vital fact seems lost in modern medicine with increasingly confusing advice about food. Our modern diet and lifestyles are making us ill in ways we are only beginning to understand in the West.

Ayurvedic teachings have understood and studied this for thousands of years.

Ayurveda also teaches the importance of developing daily habits and routines of self care which help us remain balanced from day to day and season to season.

For me discovering Ayurveda has been such a positive experience and has helped me improve my health and peace of mind. I now feel more in control of my health.

My late father had an interest in health , nature based  treatments and spirituality, including Ayurveda.  He also had a special interest in the  old Celtic traditions and  beliefs.

I have woven elements of both  into my practice name, Anam Ayurveda . Anam is the Irish word for Soul.

This reflects the similar Ayurvedic philosophy that we can only understand our soul and consciousness once we are in perfect body and mind health.

I feel a deep connection with my father now I am travelling on a similar path to his all those years ago.

“I believe that Ayurveda can have multiple benefits for us at any stage of our life, whether we suffer from disease or not.”

Our health is the most important thing we have

Our health is the most important thing we have. We only begin to realise this as we get older or suffer from illness.

Ayurveda gives us the toolkit to allow us to live a healthy life to prevent illness, treat diseases and maintain natural balance for our unique constitution. It is truly “life changing “and I want to show you how it can work for you as well.
