Ayurveda is a natural system of Medicine which originated in India over 5000 years ago. It offers a unique whole body and mind approach to prevent and treat illness and maintain our health.
Ayurveda recognized that all matter living and inert are made up of some or all of the five elements – air, ether [ space], fire , water and earth.
These elements are manifested in our body and mind as doshas or subtle energies. These are made up of different combinations of these five elements.
Each of us have a unique constitution or natural state. This is called our dosha combination a bit like your genetic blueprint.
Our natural state can change during our lives due to age, season, stress, diet and other external factors.
Crucially, it will also change with disease or illness.
When we are in balance, we do not notice small changes in our natural state. However, if they become too much then they can noticeably put us out of balance.
This is when we are more likely to become ill.
With this knowledge, Ayurveda stresses the importance of right diet and nutrition, as well as promoting positive changes in your lifestyle, daily habits and routines.
The benefits of choosing Ayurveda treatment are improved digestion, increased energy, and reduced feelings of stress and anxiety. Other benefits of Ayurveda are enhanced natural immunity which helps protect you from disease including viral infections, and increased memory and concentration and maintaining your mobility into old age.
In our busy lives, we often neglect our diet and nutrition as well and physical and emotional health. This leads to unexplained tiredness, problems with sleep, increased feelings of stress, worry and anxiety.
This leaves us feeling as if “something is not quite right “, but we cannot identify just what is wrong. Nor can your GP or doctor diagnose a problem through examination or blood tests as it is because it is too early in a disease process.
This is what Ayurveda describes as being out of balance with your natural state or self or having a feeling of “dis-ease”.
Often you may say to yourself, “I’m just not well, but I don’t know why.”
It is like your body giving you an early warning something is wrong, and that you need to do something now!
If we ignore these signs, that is when we will go on to develop a condition or disease.
Ayurveda aims to find the root cause, or more often causes, of what is making us feel out of balance.
