Why cooked apple?
Apple can be tangy and sour as well as sweet in taste and can be hard to digest raw 1st thing in the morning. How often I hear people say “I’m not hungry in the morning “. This is because your digestion is slow and sleepy at this time of the day. It needs a gentle kick start. Drinking a glass of warm water helps. The ritual of simple preparation is a mindful task to ground your thoughts and prepare for the day.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 apple [ Granny Smith] cored and peeled.
- 2-3 whole cloves
- Cinnamon stick if extra heat or sweetness needed
Preparation
- Choose a small saucepan. Add 1/2 cup water and bring to a boil on medium heat.
- Meanwhile, cut the apple into quarters. Remove the cores and peel the skins. Add peeled apples to hot water along with 2-3 cloves. You can add cinnamon for extra sweetness.
- After the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, simmer for 5 minutes.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and enjoy right away after the apples cool slightly.
- Drink the water with the apples or keep it and use in cooked soup or cereal, or as a natural sweetener in herbal tea. It is like a dilute apple juice.
- Pitta pacifying try it with pear instead.
- Kapha pacifying add cinnamon for heating spice.
